HARBOR SCHEME MEETINGS.
MEETING AT OTAKEHO At Otakeho on Monday evening the members of the New Plymouth Harbor Board addressed a meeting on the harbor j .ijiosals, which was led by Messrs. W. I). Powdrell, J. It. Corrigan and J. B. Murdoch. Mr. Le Fleming moved the following: That this meeting of ratepayers having heard the proposals as set forth by members of the Mow Plymout Harbor Board, declines to pledge their land for any further borrowing for New Plymouth harbo rworks. Mr. C. Burke seconded, ami the motion was carried by 20 votes to 5, quite a number refraining from voting at all RESOLUTION AT AUROA.. , The Harbor Board meeting at Auroa on Tuesday evening resulted in a pleasant surprise for the advocates of the port development scheme. After addresses were delivered by Messrs. N. King, D. J. Hugnes, E. Maxwell and C. A. Wilkinson, MP., the following resolution was carried by a large majority: "That this meeting of ratepayers, having heard the proposals of the New Plymouth HarBor Board fully explained, is prepared lo support the scheme outlined, and, fui> ther, is of opinion that the .fort of New Plymouth is the only one on the west coast capable of dealing with the overseas exports and imports of the Province of Taranald." The board members' were hospitably entertained by the Auroa residents at the conclusion of the meeting. It is only fair to say that tli» Patea advocates—Messrs. Powdrell, Astbury, Marx, Corrigan and Murdoch, who have so strongly opposed the proposals ta other meetings, were not present. Mr. R. Dunn did what he could, but failed to carry the meeting.
