(PROTECTING iSOLDIEES' BUSINESSES, By Telegraph. —Press Association. Wellington, August 27. The Executive Council, 011 the recommendation of the National Efficiency Board, to-day approved, of important regulations providing for the prohibition or restriction of businesses which compete with those of soldiers' and the unrestricted establishment or continuance oc which may injure or destroy soldiers' businesses. EMPLOYMENT OF RETURNED •SOLDIERS. Auckland, August 21. A statement as to the employment by the Government of superannuated Civil Servants was made yesterday by the Mayor, who. said he was in possession of tlie names of five superannuated man who were employed in one office alone in. Auckland. He thought the: Government should investigate the -matter to ensure that justice was done to returned soldiers, amongst whom he believed men suitable for most vacant ppsitions could be found. Fie had been informed that a local firm which received sixteen applications from returned soldiers for a position had given it to a man who.had not been 011 active service. He considered special consideration should, be given to capable returned soldiers. who had been wounded or had become impaired in health by reason of their service.
