A Wellington telegram reports the death of Mr. J. H. Pollodc, the wellknown handicapper, aged GST M. J. B. Murdoch was yesterday reelected chairman of directors of the Egmont Box Company. Captain 0. Walker, military representative on the First Wellington Military Service Board, has been granted further leave on account of sickness until the third week in September. A cable message received yesterday records the death of Private H. J, Curline, "th Reinforcements. His widow, mother and relatives reside in New Plymouth, to whom the sympathy of all will be extended in their bereavement. The following Taranaki names appear in the latest hospital report published:— Not severe cases: C. H. D. Bradford (Hawera), H. Cooper (Awatuna), P. Langley (New Plymouth), and 0. H. Mars (Mangatoki). Mr. S. Adamson, bailiff of the Magistrate's Court, Hawera, has received advice that hia .youngest son, Corporal Douglas Adamson, has been wounded. This is the second time that he has been wounded. Sine die exemption was granted.by Jthe First Auckland Military Service Board on Friday to the Vicar of Inglewood (Rev. Edwin L. Harvie), who was appealed for by Bishop Averill, -Anglican Bishop of Auckland. General regret was expressed throughout the New Zealand Force when it became known that Captain Richard Seddon (son of a former Prime Minister) was killed in action (cables the official war correspondent). He had only a few days ago arrived in France, and was second in command of a company of the Rifles that was being held in reserve in connection with the morning's battle. During the previous evening some shells burst near him in a trench where he was sitting with some others, and they were plentifully sprinkled with the debris. It was his first experience of heavy shelling, but he treated it with equanimity, and was quite cheerful Next morning a shell burst right in the i midst of a small party he was with, and he was killed instantaneously.
