Good sound cows made from £lO 10s to £l2 17s Cd, others £S 5s to £10; liest heifers, £l3 to £ls ss, others £9 10s to £l2 15s; backward and poorer, £6 15s to £9 ss; yearling steers, £4 5s to £5 15s; steer calves, £2 12s <id to £3 18s, ditto heifers, £1 18s to £3 3s; yearling bulls, £5, 5s to £7 5s for good Shorthorn. On Saturday, at Waiuku, we had a small yarding, best dairy cows selling from £l4 to £lO 10s, others £ll 5s to. £l3 15s, backward £8 10 to £11; heifer calves, £3 10s. F.M. ewes, in lamb (jioor condition), 14s 6d. Pigs: Light porkers, £1 17s to £1 18s. Poultry and sundries at ruling prices. At our weekly Westfield fat stock market on Wednesday, beef was yarded Jn less than usual numbers. Competition was very keen, there being an unsatisfied demand. Prime ox beef sold to £2 13s per 1001b. ordinary and rough beef £2 2s to £2 12b; cow and heifer beef, £2 3s to £2 lis, per 1001b. No heavy-weight steers penned. Steers sold from £\2 10s to £2l 10s;, cows. £9 17s fid to £l7 ss; heifers, £lo 10s lo £ls ss; bull, £l7. SJieep were penned short of requirements, and advanced in price, in many cases from 2s to 3s pev head. Best hravv prime wethers C2 3k to £2 Bs, medium to lieavv prime £1 19s Od to £2 2s fld. others £1 13s fid to £1 10s ; best ewes J £1 9s to £1 12s (id; food fat ewes. £1 | Os 3d to £1 8s fid. Hoggets came forward in small numbers, and were wanted. Best, £1 8s to £1 lis 9d; good
fat hoggets £1 5s to £1 7s Gd, others £1 Is to £1 4s 6d, store hoggets, 13s 3d to 18s 3d. Calves: A large yarding, which sold well, prices beiDg a shade better than last week. Vcalers, heavy £4 5s to £5 15s, medium £3 2s Gd to £4 4s, lijjht £1 15s to £3; small and fresh-dropped, 6s to 32s Bd. Well done vealcrs were in demand. 'Pigs: An average yarding, with prices firm at last ! week's values. Baconers, £5 2s 6d to £6 las (no extra heavy); porkers, largo £3 7s 6d to £5; medium £2 12s fid to £3 ss, small £2 to £2 10s; slips, £1 5s to £1 7s 6d; weaners, 15s to 235. All classes of pigs are selling well, and are wanted. TARANAKI CALFSKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. . I held my fourthly sale of the above on Tuesday, August 20tib, to a good attendance of buyers, my catalogue comprising 040 hides, 1180 calfskins, 93 tins tallow and sundries. Light ox improved id per lb while cow of all weights advanced J /.d to %d per lb. Calfskins were in keen demand advancing Id to Ud per lb, more than half of the catalogue realising lGd and over. Tallow is dull of sale, declining 2a 6d per cwt. I quote: Ox heavy, lljd to lifd, medium 10|d to lljd, light IOJd to lOJd; cow, heavy IOJd to 10i, medium 10} d to lOid, light 10% d to" 102 d, cut 9%d. Farmers heavy 9d, light 9fd to lOd, rough 9d to 9y 3 d, cut 7d to 7%d. Slippy 7%d. Bulls 9d. Yearlings, best ll%d to 12Jd, reconds lOd to lljd, inferior Od to 9id, cut ffd to 9£d, slippy 4d to B%d. Horse, heavy 15s to 17s, light lis 6d to 13s Gd, cut and slippy 10s Gd. Calfskins, best lines 16d to 16% d, seconds 14% d to 16d, inferior ll%d to 13d, cut lid to 13%, cut and slippy 9jd, dry 2s Gd each, slink 9 Is each. Tallow, in tins, 28s, 30s per cwt. Horsehair, 9d per lb. My next sale will be held on September 17th, as the catalogues are so large I would urge farmers to forward consignments as e&rly as convenient.
