CATHOLIC CONCERT.
FOR FIELD SERVICE FUND. A very successful concert was 1 given;ji • the Rolland Hall last night, in aid of th< Catholic Field Service Fund. There wai ■' t: a large attendance, and all the items sub>' >i mitted were accorded a most apprecia- ; v tive reception. The first half of the pro r !s: gramme consisted of miscellaneous items : '' Miss E. Bennett opened with a piajio forto solo, playing Godard's "Mazurka/ \ Songs were contributed by Miss M. Hew- > man ("My Happy Garden"; encore, "A ' Bowl of Roses"); Miss G. Hurley ("Oh| "" Dry Those Tears"; "Because of Thee")j ■. Miss R. Whittle ("Wind in the Trees"| £ "Sometimes in Summer"); Miss J,- Bem nett ("God Send You Back To Me"; ' "Land of Long Ago"); and a vocal due) •/, by Misses Whittle and Hurley ("Sercn- ' * ado in Summer"; encored). -vlr, W. P. Kellehcr gave a recitation, "Lasca," and for an encore, "Not Understood." Misj May Fahey, a clever little dancer, filled. ■ i a gap in the programme through Mr. Dunstan's inability to attend, and hei Hornpipe and Irish Jig were much eu* •} joyed. Mr. A. J. Fahey, who was nol able to dance, sang the humorous sorfgi-,) "Don't You Think You Ought to See a ■- Doctor?" for which he was encored. $ In the second part a highly-amusing one-act farcical comedy, entitled "Found . ■. in a Four-\v heeler," was produced, anc '»■ the audience thoroughly enjoyed botl ;" the acting of the comedians and the interesting situations which were (level. > >. oped. The story was of the suspicion! of a retired broker (Mr. ,T. J. Dwyer) o': his wife (Miss Schrodcski), on accountof her meeting secretly (so far as hei', - husband was concerned) with man at an attractive couiftry cottage The cabby who drives the couple to the -», mysterious meeting place arouses the ■ curiosity of the old broker, wiio pays' him fabulous sums to reveal all he knov, about what is transpiring. At the same time the driver extracts further money' from the broker's wife, as the price eti his secrecy, and so the plot thickens until > ,•'i the' cab-drivcr 'ls""persuaded . ■his garb for'that; of the retired who'assumes the role'of drives his wife to the meeting place; fe Here a, letter is found, containing. ex-: ,-i pjanations why the other'party to the "< meeting is not able to be ptcsent.. In' C: j the meantime the driver-broker become* a very ardent suitor for the hand oi : the maid (Mrs, J, J. Powell) in the brok- : er's house. Threats by the broker's wife 1 to forsake her husband for his suspicions ' of her conduct are in course of being ; given effect to when matters are set right by the discovery that the mysteri- from man was an uncle of the bioker's wife, and between them they were ar- 1 ranging a pleasant surprise for the broker, in which he was to be made the own- 1 '• er of the country villa at which the J meetings were taking place. * The proceedings terminated with the singing of the National Anthem.
