GOVERNMENT SHOULD DEFINE A POLICY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. Before the Military Service Board today the Southland Education Board ap' pealed for six teachers, adducing strong evidence in Support of the contention that the time had derived when no further depletion in the ranks of the Second Division teachers should be made. The position had become acute, and a serious injury to the cause of education in the larger schools, and the probable closing of some of the smaller-schools, was inevitable ,if the . drain on certificated and experienced teachers continued. In granting conditional exemption, the chairman said the matter of appealing should not be left to the education' boards; the Government should bo approached with a view to arriving at a: definite policy, as in the case of miners and fanners.
