MEETING OF-COMMITTEE.

The general committee of the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society met on Saturday afternoon. There were present Messrs J. S. C'onnett (chairman), W. B. Grant, 11. Benton, J. Allen, W. Hall, C. Hoskin, C. Hobson, H. C. Sampson, R. H. Pigott, J. E. Rowlands, H. H. Olson, A. R. Gudopp, li. Honeyfield, C. W. Ruebe, A. Lister, E. Wells, and T. Smeilie. Tlie chairman submitted a statement of finances connected with the winter show, which showed a net profit, not including donations, of £sl. ' The question of fixing dates for the autumn show was compromised somewhat by the dates fixed for the Hawera show, and a committee consisting of [the president' (Mr. J. S. Connett) and j Mr. W. B. Grant, was set up to confer I with the Hawera Society on the matter.

The secretary of the New Zealand Jersey Breeders' Association wrote offering a gold medal for competition at the next show, for Jersey heifers, the conditions tj be: For registered Jersey heifers, in milk, calved since Ist July, 191G; to be judged on type; there must be not less than five exhibitors, or no competition.

The same association also offered! a subsidy of £1 for £1 for any sum between £5 and ■ £lO which tie society may allot to two classes at the forthcoming show for cows holding semiofficial records. The conditions set out were: For Jersey cows calved prior to nuly I, l<fls, and ior Jersey cows calved since July 1, 1915, to which certificates of record have been awarded by the New Zealand Department of Agriculture, for milk and butter-fat records made under semi-official tests; the subsidy to be equally divided- between the albove-shown classes; cows to be judged on type; five exhibitors to enter in each class or no competition. ,'■''■ ' It was 'decided to accept, with thanks, the offers of the Jersey Breeders' Association on the conditions set om.

The resignation of Mr. T\ G. Hirst was accepted with regret:

On behalf of the pedigree cattle exhibitors at the last show, Mr. Connett presented a gold albert to Mr. W. a. Grant, with the following accompanying letter: !

"To W. B. Grant, Esq., vice-president of New Plymouth A. and P. Association. Dear Sir,—l have been instructed by tiw pedigree cattle exhibitors at your recent show to write and thank you for the kindness, consideration, and assistance given us by you at your last show. I also ask you to kindly accept tiie 'enclosed gold albert as a small token of our appreciation for your of kindness extended to us at. your last show-, and also at previous' shows. In conclusion we wish you and your association every success in the future. Signed on behalf of the pedigree cattle exhibitors, W. J. Bradford."

In making the presentation, Mr. Connett said it was very satisfactory to the society to se ( e this expression of appreciation of their" treatment at the show, and he was sure Mr. Gram; would appreciate the exhibitors' thoughtfulnesa. The act, he was sure, would do good to the whole society. (Applause.) Mr. Grant, in .replying, said he did not think he was entitled to the gift, but would accept it in the spirit in which it was given. . He was always willing to do all he could for the society, but he thought there were others who .had done quite as much as he had.
