SOCIETY NEWS.

Lajt Thursday the Misses Crooke gave a most enjoyable afternoon tea in nonor of Miss Keitha Leatham's approaching marriage, each guest bringing "something in white." The competition of finding the "Things camouflaged," was won by Miss Doris Bradbury. A very dainty tea was served in the dining room, the floral decorations being masses of spring flowers which were greatly admired. Amongst those present were: Mesdames J. C. Nicholson, D. A dance is being arranged by Kelson old boys residing in New Plymouth, in honor of the first fifteen football team from Kelson College. This will take place next Wednesday evening in the East End Pavilion.

SOCIAL NOTES. Their Excellencies the Governor-Gene-ral and Countess of Liverpool, attended the afternoon given by Captain and Mrs Hall-Thompson to naval visitors and friends at last waek-end. There were a large number present, and a thoroughly enjoyable time was spent. The reception rooms were thrown into one, and tea was served there and also in the breakfast room, while a special room was set aside upstairs as a smoking room. Several of the guests gave musical items during the afternoon, the singing of Miss Clifford, of New Plymouth, being particularly enjoyed. Dame Nellie Melba recently paid a visit to the Army Nurses' Club in Melbourne. Since its opening a litt'w over a year ago, more than 1200 visits have been paid to the club by army sisters, representing about 600 sisters, many of whom had stayed at the club for periods varying from one night to a fortnight. The good effects of the club are now farreaching, not only throughout Australia, but also in London and America.
