FOOTBALL.

The visit to New Plymouth of the Nelson College and Auckland Grammar School football teams in order to play matches against th« local Boys' High School must be gratifying both to the school supporters and to lovers of the game in Taranaki. Auckland Grammar School and Nelson are coming here with reputations of heing very'fine teams, and the standard of play shown (by the local team will Ibe watched with interest. Undoubtedly the New Plymouth team contains some very promising players and should he a.Mo to give a good account of itself. The forwards appear a hard working pack, while the hacks have played some great games this season. On the whole the team is capaible of playing better football than the famous IMC'team that heat Te Aute in New Plymouth, and from the interest that is heing taken in the games it looks aa if this year's attendance will eclipse the crowd of 4000 that attended the Te Auto match in laic.

Auckland Grammar play New Plymouth on Saturday next, August 24th, and this -will provide a game of an interprovincial character. The Boys' High School will be representative of our leading secondary school in Taranaki, while Auckland Grammar is the leading school in Auckland (province. Nelson College meet Grammar on Monday, August 2fith, and on the following Wednesday N(\v Plymouth play (Nelson College- All the games- will commence at 8 p.m. Word has been received stating that the redoubtable Auckland Grammar School team beat Sacred Heart College in the final of the Secondary Schools' Championship last Saturday by 20 to 0. The team leaves Auckland by the Barawa to-day, and arrives on Friday morning. The Nelson College team will arrive on Saturday by the 3.30 p.m. (rain. The colors of the various schools are:—Auckland Gramar School, dark blue; Nelson College, dark blue and light blue; Boys' High School, black and white. Saturday's game will commence at 3 p.m., and souvenir programmes will be on sale at the sports ground.
