NEW PLYMOUTH HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of the New Plymouth High Schools was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs 1). Hutehen (chairman), H. Trimble, J. S. Fox, L. C. Sladden, S. G. Smith, R. W. D. Robertson, I<\ W. Atkinson and E. !P. Webster.

Miss Barr, principal of the Girls' High School, notified that she had written to the Education Department asking for some modification of the home science scheme, as she considered the present syllabus too fleavy. Plans of the fittings for the chemical and physical laboratories at the new Boys' School, together with an estimate of the cost, were received from the board's architects and are to be forwarded to the Department for approval.

Tho Taranaki Edun.tion Board reported that they were including in their order of material from New York tho hyloplate required for blackboards at the high spools. In reply to an invitation to visit New Plymouth for tho purpose of considering further works in connection

with the Boys' School, the Minister of Education wrote that he regretted, he would be unable to accept it for fsome time to come.

Miss Barr reported that trouble was being experienced with tho chimneys at the Girls' School and a committee was set up to deal with the matter. Tho principal also said that the electrical heaters which had been installed were proving satisfactory. There had been no change in the roll number during the month.

Mr Moyes, _ principal of the Boys' School, reported that Mr C. H. Wynyard had commenced business on his own account and was continuing to conduct the commercial class at the school. The board confirmed this arrangement. ,

Authority was given to purchase tools, to the value of about £3O, as required for the agricultural classes' by the instructor.

Other matters were dealt with in com mittee.
