THE U-BOAT CAMPAIGN.

THREE VESSELS OPERATING OFJ? AMERICA

Ottawa, Aug. 19.

The New York Times' Washington correspondent states that the captain of a vessel sunk by a U-boat is positive he saw the petty officer of the U-boat which sunk his vessel. He reported the fact to the Navy Department. lie says the petty officer recognised him and promptly disappeared.

_ Navy officials admit it would foe possible for U-boat sailors to land at night, night.

Tho correspondent has positive information that there are three U-boats in American waters beginning an American U-boat campaign for a second time. —Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.

BATTLESHIP SUNK. Melbourne, August 20. It is announced that the battleship Drake, the last flagship on the Australian station, has been sunk by a torpedo from a German submarine. Nineteen of the crew were killed. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assoc.

The Drake was a vessel of 14,100 tons, built in 1903. She earned two 9.2 in guns and sixteen Oin guns.
