COLONIES ESSENTIAL. GERMAN PRESS PROPAGANDA. Received Aug. 17, 1.50 p.m. London, Aug. 10. The German press lias re-started the propaganda emphasising the essential need for colonies. Hindenburg, in a message, says: "We must have colonies, because without raw materials industry is impossible." Ludendorff says: "The possession of colonies la inseparably connected with Germany'a future." The Crown Prince expresses pride and gratitude for the defenders of German kultur in the colonies.—Reuter.
THE KAISER KARL CONFERENCE. AUSTRIAN HELP IN THE WEST. Received August IS, 5.5 p.m. Amsterdam, August 1". It is expected that the decision of the Kaiser-Karl conference will be announced in the. Reciistag in a few days. -Reports are current that Austria has agreed to send troops to the West front on condition tliat Germany makes fresh and a more modest peace offer and also concedes certain Austrian demands relative to Poland.—Reuter. A Berlin official message declares that the conference of Austro-German Emperors, statesmen, and generals at German headquarters manifested complete agreement on political and military tasks and an identical interpretation of the alliance. The Frankfurter Zeitung says that as the result of the conference, Polish problems are considerably nearer solution. It is believed that an Austrian Archduke will bo elected to the throne of Poland, —Reuter. HOME RULE TO BE INTRODUCED. Received August 18, 5.5 p.m. Copenhagen, August 2(5. A report from Vienna states that Bussarfih ft often in consultation with the Crown and leaders of all parties. It has been decided to introduce Home Rule in Austria, forming a Czech, German, and Slavonian State.—United Service.
