THE TOTE INSPECTOR. 1 By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, >Last Night. Referring to the statements made in the reports at the Christchureh races on Thursday the Minister of Internal Affairs said he had received a report from the t6talisator inspector, who assured him that the instructions given were literally carried out, namely, that no delay should be caused in connection with the working of the totalisator, his duty bejng merely to check the calculations of the totalisator staff and sign a certificate that the final total shown on the totalisator was a correct one according to the working of the machine. The Minister also said he had received a telegram from the vice-president of the Metropolitan Trotting Club, stating that the arrangements with his club worked effectually without hitch of any kind. The Hon. W. 6. Russell that why there should be any suggestion that the departmental officer who carried out his duties so satisfactorily with the Metropolitan Trotting Club on Wednesday should have caused trouble at the Canterbury Jockey Club meeting on Thursday was difficult to understand. He should watcli with interest the working of the totalisator at Riccarton to-mor-row.
