TARANAKI EDUCATION; BOARD'S KXLIIQJK REVERSED.

The'matter of appealing for teatikers* called' up for military service was again' discussed iby the Education (Board, at its meeting on Wednesday, when Mr. S. G. Smith moved that the. board's former resolution on the question he rescinded. Mr. Smith said he did so because he. thought the hoard; should appeal for its remaining teachers, and also in order to giro the new imenilbers a, ch&aoe of expressing their views on the question. The motion waa seconded by Mr; Eaves and carried, Mr- Trimlble being the only dissentient.

Mr. Smith then moved that five of -the teachers at present under call for service should bo appealed for, namely Messrs W. C. ißieheno, J- H. Bocoek, A. P. Palmer, C Evett, and R. C. Larsen. Mr. White seconded the motion, which was supported by Messrs Eaves and Knight. Mr. Wilkinson, urged that some medium course should be adopted so that appeals could be made in cases which the board considered necessary. He thought a modification of the board's previous policy was desirable, but was not in favor of wholesale exemptions.

Mr Masters said he saw no reason to alter his opinion. He explained the position as he had done at the last meeting, for the benefit of the new memIbers of the (board, and concluded by saying that the matter only affected twelve teachers- Of the fourteen who were eligible, one had a family of eight and the other four, and! he thought if the whole twelve had to go t heboard should let them, and he felt sure their places could be filled.

On the question being put a division waa called for, and tho voting was: Ayes —Messrs Smith, Eaves, Knight, Grayling and! White. Noes.—Messrs Trimble Wilkinson and Masters.

It was decided that -the secretary of the board should appear before the Military Service Board in support of the appeals.
