COAL MINERS' DISPUTE.

: , STOCKTON MINERS IDLE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport,,Last Night. Bins full and the shortage of shipping were responsible for the Westport Coal Company's mine being idle to-day. The Stockton mines were idle, owing to a dispute over a deputy, who was asfcud to do work he considered outside of his duties—namely, cutting the tops off mining props—but refused, and was dismissed. The management considered the deputy had not sufficient work and that it was justified in asking tim to do prop-cutting. Tho other deputies declined to resume work until the dismissed man was reinstated.

It is understood that, in connection with the stop-work meeting of miners, that there was a majority in favor of leaving the matter in the hands of the federation to take what action it considered advisable. Details of-the voting are not available.

MINERS AWAITING DTSTBUiVMENTS. Greymouth, Last Night. The men at the State mine held a stop-work meeting on Wednesday, when the dispute with the coal-owner 3 was fully discussed. The position was considered in all its phases, and it was finally decided to leave the matter entirely m the hands of the Federation of Labor. The men resumed work this morning' as usual, and will await further develop, ments.

A stop-work meeting at Blackball-fie cided on the same lines.
