The seriousness of the position created by the shortage of shippdng and the accunumilation of produce in store is shown by some official figures now available. The quantity of frozen meat in store on June 30 last was 11,000,000 cubic feet. Beef occupies three cubjle feet per freight carcase of $0; lb. " The killings for the rest of this year are expected to amount \$ 1,470,000 cubic-feet, judging by last year's figures. It is anticipated that during the next .four months there will be available 5,500.000 cubic feet of insulated space, and of this 3.800,000 cubic "feet will be used for meat. There will therefore .be 5.<J70,000 cubic feet of meat in the stores at the end of the year. >
The estimate of killings for 1»10 is ' i 2,750,000 cubic feet.- r The shipping space expected to be available for meat during 1919 is set down at 8,000,000 cubic feet. If these figures are realised there will be 14,420,000 cubic feet of meat in the»store3 at the end of next year... The figures for dairy produce, are less alarming. There were 2,000,000 cubic feet of dairy produce in the stores at the end of. June, and it is that the available insulated space available up to the end of the year will absorb 2,000,000 cubic feet. The estimated output for the 191S-10 season is 5,500,000 cubic feet, and the shipping expected will take 5,000,000 cubic feat, so that there should 1-e not more than 500,000 cubin feet in the stores at the end of 1&1& These figures relate only to the exportI able surplus. ...
