A meeting of the country executive was held at the A. and P. rooms on Wednesday afternoon, Mr. E. Walker presiding. Mr. P. Mackay was requested to appoint an assistant with him for Le Popo. Some discussion resulted as what the country should endeavor to raise, and it was resolved to mate the target £3OOO, the district to include the Whangamomona County. It was resolved to interview'certain property holders with a view to having them heading the list in their particular locality. Ways and means of introducing the appeal we're diseussed at length, and the secretary instructed to secure permits to have every, thing in readiness for the start on Aulidist 24.

Mr J. W. McMillan (Mayor) presided at tlie meeting of tho town executive held last evening. Committees were set tip as follows:—Collection, Messrs Boon, Clarke and Sole; amusements, Messrs Thompson, Rove, Abraham, Lister 'and Clarke; football, Messrs Malone, Thompson, Row, Good and Smart; advertising, Messrs Kirkwood, Orawsha-w and Malone; executive, Messrs Boon, Crawshaiv, Rowe, Martin, McMillan, J. McDonald and the secretary, Mr. Cooper. Mr Crawshaw wa 8 appointed treasurer. It was resolved to hold a fancy dress ball during .September, a charge of 5s ad? mission to be made. Mrs Boon is to be requested to endeavor to have the patriotic shop and tea rooms set aside three Saturdays for the Copper Trail. The question of a concert was reviews and one will be arranged to follow tlir dance, but probably i u the last week of the contest, October. The organiser J. S Rowe, reported on the suggested lootball tournament at which senior teams from various clubs will participate. The Mayor said he would endeavor to have a full holiday for the occas.on, and efforts made to' have the municipal band present, whilst the Ladies Patriotio Committee are expected to improve the shining hour by retailing afternoon tea, etc., on" the grounds, tho A. and P. Association having consented to the use of their field lor the purnc.se. , Despite t*e atrocious weather prevailmg last evening there was a very satisfactory attendance of members* of tho TJrm.l* Order at the meeting, A.D, Bro Richardson presiding. Principal business was the report of the delegates to he hospital meeting, and after the position lm\ been explained all present sigmfied their intention to meet the increased levy without demur. August 15. « was disappointing to patrons and unfortunate for the Returned Soldiers' Association that the weather was so vile tor the dance held at Kahouri Hall on Tuesday evening. Those who braved the elements enjoyed one of the most pleasant evenings of the series. Mrs. Jiianchi was at the piano, whilst very acceptable extras were contributed by Misses Sullivan and Neilson. The duties of M.C. were in the capable hands of Mr, Neilson.

Recent donations received for the Pudding Fund include 10s from Mrs. Marchant and similar sums from Mrs raylor and a friend. Mrs. Marchant has also forwarded 10s to the Parcels f nnd \„ , The La***' Patriotic Committee will lx> pleased to receive further doirations for these or any other patriotic purpose. r

The efforts of the school children in connection with the Copper Trail are 'commg to hand. Latest sums received by the committee include £1 6s 6d from i the Stanley sood School, 13s U Midhirst scholars, and 10s from those attending at Radnor Road.

Tariki settlers are now out after cash ,to purchase Christmas gifts for the men at the front. Recently a committee
