SHORTAGE OF COAL. London, August 13. It is understood that the coal situation in Britain is mora serious than is generally realised- The Government proposes to lay the fact before the country. It is admitted that the coal ration will not meet ordinary needs, but the Government hopes that the people will endeavor to do with less than the rations owing to the increasing French and American requirements. The Miners' Federation meets on August 21 to consider ways of increasing the output.—Aus.-N.Z. Caible Assoc.
