N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. (Stratford branch), report as follows: On July 20, we held a clearing sale on account of James Baker, Esq. Sundries were in great demand, and brought very satisfactory prices. The dairy herd averaged £l4. These were a.fine line, but some of the cows showed'ag*. Twoyear empty heifers £0 2s fid, yearling heifers £4 10s. springing heifers £ll as to £l2 ss, dairy cows (low in condition) £lO 10s to £ll, close up and in fair condition £l2 to £l7 ss. On the 2nd hist., at Tarata yards, we held our usual sale. Store cows (small) £5 2s Gd to £O. empty heifers £5 to £."> 9s, yearling heifers £2 3s, £3 15s Gd to £4 2s fid. yearling steers £2 13s fid to £.l 17s, in-calf heifers (small and low in condition) £0 2s fid. to £fi 4s, springing heifers £7 to' £S, dairy cows £8 10s, £ll to £l4 10s.. On the (ith inst,, at Stratford yards. Store cows £4 15s, £O, £G ss, £7 13s to £7 16s, fat cows £9 10s to flO 17s, 2i to 3-vear steers £X 12s Gd, empty heifers £•"> 7s to £.3 15s, yearling heifers 435, 50s, 78s up to SSs, yearling steers 32s fid, 70s up to 80s, mixed yearlings 55s Gd to 655 ; springing heifers £7 10s to £9, hoggets 18s 9d to 19s, mixedaged ewes (in lamb) 15s to 19s. Private Sales.—The cold, frosty weather and rain following the snow, has | left the district shorter of feed for the time of year than has been the case for many years past, and business has sutfered accordingly. Hoggets 20s to 20s fid, 4 and G-tootii wethers 2Ss to 32s Gd, empty heifers £4 15s, £5 5s Gd, £5 17s Gd to £O, forward empty heifers £lO, yearling lieifers £3 to £3 12s Gd, mixed yearlings £2 12s Gd, springing h?ifers £9 10s, £lO to £l2 10s, dairy cows £l2 10s, £l3 13s, £l4, £l4 10s to £ls, 2-year bullocks £lO 9s Gd to £il ss.
