DAIRY MEETINGS.
TIKORANGI DAIRY COMPANY The twenty-lliird annual meeting of the Tikorangi Dairy Company was hold yesterday afternoon, Mr. C I'oi'-'UiUD, chairman ol' directors, presiding. CHAIRMAN'S SfATEMENT. Tiie chairman, in moving the adoption of the report (already published) and balance-sheet, said [hey had had a veally good year, notwithstanding the dry season. The aiiioiiiii, of butter produced was within 3A tuns of that of the previous year. The milk supply had increased bv SlljOQOlb, but t.iio cream supply h--d decreased by 37.0001b; but the test had been higher than previously. The year's expenses had slightly increased, but that was due to tho ;n----creased cost of storage. The item of ,1*147 lis 4d for insurance was unusual, but as the produce had to be stored and eould not be sold as previously at a f.o.'n. price, the insurance was essential. However, all the factory repairs had been carried out by tho -manager, and no skilled labor had been engaged. He referred to the appeal on behalf of the King George Fund for widows and children of men of the mercantile marine, and also that of the New Plymouth Women's Patriotic Committee, to whom they had sent a box of butter. 'xfte amount written off for depreciation was 5 per cent. Something over £BO had been expended in connection with casein plant, and in consequence of that work the manager had been granted an extra £2O, and the assistant had received an increase of 53 per week. A drain that had been necessary in connection with the work had cost £lB. He referred to the fact that in all probability it would be necessary to increase the share capital of the company. In consequence of the necessity of providing increased storage accommodation, the company had had to take up nn additional Gfi shares in the Jloturoa Freezing Company. Ho thought, taking everything into consideration, the company had had a very successful year, and he had pleasure in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. The motion was seconded by Mr. JT. Kcbinson and carried. ELECTION' OF DIRECTORS. Mr. George E. Wills, who retired by rotation, was re-elected. In place of Messrs D. Alexander and J. Allen, who resigned near the end of the financial year, Messrs J. Foreman, jun., and C. Sort en were elected. Mr, A. J. Tunbridge was re-elected auditor. GENERAL. Mr. H. Hicks, speaking for the cream suppliers, said lie thought they should get more than was paid for milk. There I were advantages to the company in I securing just the cream, which the manager could deal with at his leisure. There was the precedent of North Taranaki, where %d per pound more was paid for cream. He moved that cream suppliers be paid y',<t per pound more than milk suppliers. Mr. Whitehead seconded, but expressed the opinion that the motion should be matte a recommendation to the directors. He considered the but-ter-fat from cream was worth a little more than that from milk. Referring to the Xr.rth Taranaki payment of ] /,d per pound extra, he said that only spplied to suppliers within a certain radius. He did not believe in that, as if the cream arrived at the factory in . good condition it did not matter if it came a distance of 10 miles. Subsequently the motion was amended as suggested and carried by a large majority. Mr. O'Carroll suggested that Ihe allowance paid to the directors should be increased. He s,\id the amount ■*t present paid did not represent the price of the labor of a Chinese coolie. He also thought the secretary's salary should be increased. Mr. West moved and Mr. J. Foreman seconded, that the secretary's salary be increased to £IOO. It was pointed out that the secretary had had no increase on account of the casein work. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr Hine, in returning thanks, said he appreciated the vote by tile meeting. He had from the beginning received the most courteous treatment from the directors. He would always do his best to promote the interests of the company. It was subsequently resolved, on the motion of Messrs Robinson and Griiftths, to increase the allowance to directors to 10s 6d per meeting. Mr. O'Carroll moved and Mr. Robinson seconded, that the chairman be voted an 'honorarium of £SO. The motion was carried, and Mr. Foreman suitably replied. On the motion of Messrs Hocks and H. H. Jury, it was resolved that the necessary steps be taken to increase tho share capital of the company. At a subsequent meeting of directors, Mr. C. Foreman was re-elected chair : ma a.
