A NEW HUN TRICK; ATTACKING A COASTGUARD STATION. Received August 13, 8.40 p.m. Washington, August 12. The Navy Department has announced that oil was released by a U-boat near the entrance of the channel to Wilmington, Delaware, in the hope that the tide would float it in towards the shore. Instead, the oil was carried past Smith Island. The coastguard station was soon after attacked. Three large oil spots, each an acre in extent, were observed. The effect of the gas on the victim? lasted 40 rtiinutes. The effetu was exactly similar to that of mustard gas The Navy Department has announced it is believed that a destroyer sank a U-boat by means of depth bombs 100 miles off the Virginia coast. • Received August 13. 7.25 p.m. Montreal, August 12. A U-boat fired shells containing mustard gas on to a coastguard sta'ion oil the American coast. Six of the coastguards were overcome. The U-boat poured oil on the surrounding water, from which the gas arose. —Press Assoc. SURVIVORS LANDED. Ottawa, August 12. A report from an American Atlantic port states that 15 of the crew of steamer Sydland have landed, reporting that a German submarine sank a vessel. Another fifteen have also been rescued from another torpedoed ship— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assoc. CREWS CAST ADRIFT. Two of the crew of the schooner Eats Palmer report that a submarine appeared in the middle of a fishing fleet and sank nine vessels. Some of the survivors were detained aboard the U-boat before being sent adrift. A naval scout boat reports a schooner picked up four survivors sixty miles off the coast. Washington, August 11.
