PATRIOTIC WORK.
THE TOBACCO FUND. ' The following donations have ibeen received towards the Mayoress' appeal for I tobacco and cigarettes" for the men on : active service:—Mr. T. C. List, £3 3s; Girls' Victoria League, per Miss Rawson, £2; Messrs Smart Bros. £1; collection soldering bottle, Messrs Smart Bros.' employees, £1; Mrs Willie teeth (sale of eggs) 12s; Mr R. 31. Newing, ss; !Mra T. Pratt, ss; Mrs Matheson, ss. A kind man sent a 61b box of Havelock, and several smaller packages have readied the depot. Arrangements are being made to have tables in Devon street next Saturday,-at which ladies will attend to receive donations and (lifts of smokes from the soldiers' friends. The Christmas parcels will ho packed in the Patriotic depot, St. Aubyn Street on Monday next, 19th. inst. Friends ara asked to leave their donations and gifts during this week. The Mayoress would ask those who are making Christmas cakes for the sofdierj to kindly send them to the depot at tha end of this week.
