PEACE TALK.
NO PRESENT HOPE OF PEACE, j : GERMANY'S AIM UNIVERSAL DOMINATION. MR, BALFOUR'S STATEMENT. , Received August 9, 11.40 p.m: London, August 8. Mr. Balfour, replying to protests •gainst the Government's alleged leged failure to respond to peace feelers and declare its views on the league of nations, said that he was unable to see anything in the actions, statements, or writings of the German Government, politicians, or publicists, affording the slightest hope that peace discussions would be fruitful. Now an almost impassable abyss separated the Entente and the Central Powers, unless the war results in changing the heart of Germany or a complete Entente victory proves to Germany the failure of her policy. Every sign indicated Germany s aim was universal domination. There was small hope that Germany would be a peaceful member of a league of natirn, until such" ileas were eiudi<iiod. The only way of eradicating it was to show they cannot succeed.—Kress Amos.
