WHAREROA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The largest gathering that has been Been in in the local ball last Tuesday evening, to further raise funds in aid of that building. The hall proved only too small for the number present, and it is easily seen that further extension will be necessary next year to cope with the large and popular meetings held here. The evening was pleasantly spent in dancing, the music being supplied by Mrs. Benton, while Mr. Murphy plnyed several extras on J the violin. Non-dancers were able to , play cards. As usual, the Whareroa ladies provided an excellent while Mr. B. Bloor proved an efficient W.C. Opportunity was taken of the occasion to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Dyke and family, who are leavrng to take up their residence in Mangatoki. , Mr. F. Hicks (chairman), in well-chosen words, expressed the sorrow of all prer sent at the loss of so popular and esteemed a family, and wished them every euccess in their new home, and assured them of always receiving a warm wclpome on any visit to Whareroa. Mr. Dyke suitably replied, thanking all for their kM wishes, and saying that they should always remember their happy life spent in this district. Last Sunday afternoon, the first service held in Whareroa was conducted by the Rev. C. H. Grant-Cowan, who preached an eloquent sermon to a very large congregation. At the unanimous wißh pf the people, Anglican services will be held here every first and third Sunday In each month. A Sunday school is also being held each Sunday. As elsewhere, grass is scarce just now, but should come along quickly directly the weather becomes ■wanner.
