PUKEKURA PARK BOARD.
\ MONTHLY MEETING. i The monthly meeting of tho Pukekura Park Board was held last night. Mr C. E. Bellriiigcr (chairman) presided, and there were also present Mrs C. 11, Burgess, Messrs R. C- Hughes, VV. A. Collis, G. W. Browne, R. Cock, and A. Gray (secretary). The curator of the Park (Mr W. W. Smith) was also present. An apology for absence was received from Mr 11. Ford. CURATOR'S REPORT. The curator in his report stated that during the month the general work had been much impeded on account of the bad weather, whiali had also necessitated a large amount of clearing of rubbish. Phe planting of the west face of Cannon Hill had been completed, but it waa hoped to be able to secure more plants from some of the Native reserves. Time had been spent preparing the site on the sports ground on which it is proposed to re-erect the old pavilion. The assistance of a practical carpenter would be necessary in order to move and re-ereot the .building. It was proposed to plant |ths sides of the semi-circle of the new site with high-stem tree-ferns for immediate effect. He, suggested the board should visit the grounds to decide some details in connection with the matterDuring the month parcels of plants had been received from Mrs Lawson (New [Plymouth), Mrs Smith (Hurworfh), Mr Billing (Frankleigh), Mr Allan (High School, Ash'burton) and Mr W. Smith (■Whanganiomona). Contributions received during the month amounted to £1 17s' 3d, GENERAL. ! ' It was decided, on the motion of the chairman, that the dressing shed should be removed from its present situation, as it wa 5 something of an eyesore to the eastern side of the grounds. Some discussion took place on the question of the tea kiosk, which the chairman said had heen of no financial assistance to the board. He mentioned also that the Park lacked a rest room for ! women, and that the Borough Council had given an extra £SO this vear on condition that it should be spent on providing sanitary conveniences. Some time ago a considerable sum had been spent on the tea rooms, but the board had not benefited in the least from tho expenditure. It was eventually decided that the board should visit the grounds on the afternoon of August IS, when the Whole question should be gone into. The question of the control of the sports ground occupied tho attention of the Hard for some time and it wa* decided to further consider the matter when the members of the board visit the park on the If>bh inst.
