BOROUGH STREETS.
£IO,OOO LOAN PROPOSED. At.last night's meeting of the.works, committee of the New Plymouth Borough Council the following report by the •• streets Eub-eommittee was adopted: That the. borough engineer be instructed not to proceed with the estimate for alterations to-"the Vivian Street culvert; that Mr. L. C. Sladden be informed that the council cannot see its way to do any work in Kowhai Street at present; that ■ the borough engineer be authorised from time to time-to arrange with the Survey. Department for permanent standard survey blocks in all streets where works are time to-time to arrange with the Survey in.progress or contemplated; instructions were given to notify the Gas Company to give the council the notice required by the New Plymouth Gas Company's Act, 1579; that the borough engineer be: authorised to cut down Avenue Road at its junction with John Street (estimated . cost, £40); that the works authorised in Ballance Street and Norman Street be . charged to the £42,000 loan. A schedule, upon which the £'lo,ooo new streets loan was based, was submitted, of which the following is a-summary: Eoads £3218, tar ''£3Bl3, footpatlu £2OOO, preliminary •• expenses £269, firs), year's interest and sinking fund £7OO. If funds are available after the completion of~the above worko, other works, which have been deleted in order to : keep> within the limit of £10;000 .were outlined involving an expenditure of £ll2 ■' 'on roads and £4992 for tarring..
