German newspapers publish an article by Prince von Gamp, member of the Reichstag, stating that Admiral von Holtzendorff, who haa just retired from the position of Chief of the Naval Staff, tssured the Chancellor in February, 1916, that the submarines would force England to make peace before six months.—Aus.-NZ. Gable ABsn., COMMENT ON ANNIVERSARY. Amsterdam, August 4. German newspapers commenting on the anniversary of August 4 declare that last week's success has strengthened the British morale at home and in the army.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Asan. ADMISSION" OF FAILURE. Copenhagen, August 4. Hindenburg and Ludendorff, receiving' eorrespondents from Berlin newspapers, admitted that the general scheme of attack had failed, but asserted that the Germans remain masters of <the Situation, and that the Allied progress on the Marne is unimportant. Amsterdam, August 4The Frankfurter Zeitung saya: We must give irp the hope that the summer campaign will end the war. The enemy will certainly strike additional blows and we must reconcile ourselves to a winter's fighting and probably to another summer, when the Americans will make the struggle difficult for us.
