DESTRUCTIVE. FIRE AT LOWER HUT; By Telegraph. —Press Association. Wellington, August 3. A fire broke out on l-he premises of the Westland Timber Company at Lower Hutt shortly after five o'clock last-night,. and'BP 'with great rapiditj', the pressure of waiter being defective.. The whole of the joinery and sawmill portion of the buildings was destroyed, also a large stosk of timber iaside. Thu loss is considerable as the plant was of a modern description. The amounit of the insurance--is noj; known in Wellington.

ALLEGED PROFITEERING Weliigton, August 3. A deputation from the Farmers' Union interviewed the Hon- Mr GuUirio coacerning profits allegedly made by privaltc dealers in Dominion products after subtraction of the Imperial Government's need 9. ' Tbe Minister said his sympathy was ■with the producers who favored an extension of tha comandeer.
