DOMINION NEWS. BREACH OF GAMING ACT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Last. Night. At the Magistrate's Court, Maurice Falp'rr, manager of the "Peg o' My Heart" Company, was fined £3 and 7s costs on a charge of exhibiting on the programme an advertisement for Tattersall's consultation. Defendant said that the programmes were supplied fr«e to the company by a Sydney printing firm, and he had not seen them till Thursday. The Magistrate said that the offence was a serious one in this country, the maximum fine being £3O.

DESERTERS HEAVILY PINED. Greyraouth, Last Night, At the Magistrate's Court this morning, three men named M'Killop, M'Donald, and White, who attempted to leave the Dominion by an averseas' steamer, were arrested as military deserters and fined £2O each. M'Donald was fined an additional •£5 for giving a fake name. Another man named Kinnely, who was also arrested, is now in hospital, and was unable to appear.

FLOODS IN SOUTHLAND. lavercargill, Last Night. During the past few days a southwesterly of moderate temperature has been raging, accompanied by heavy rain, resulting in the ihelting of snow in the hills. In the hack country the rivers have risen considerably and have overflowed their banks at places. The Waipahi flooded suddenly on Thursday night, the water overflowing the township and finding its way into some of the dwellings. The Mataura had risen 18in to-day, but has a long way to go before a flood at Gore is to be apprehended.

The Mirailiau was in flood on Thursday night, the water entering Wyndham. The Oreti is bank-high at Lumsden, and is over the road at Wallacetown. The weather is apparently improving, and serious are not antiafoAti*.
