THE EMPIRE. SPECIAL MATINEE PROGRAMME TO-DAY. A most interesting and amusing selection of pictures have' been secured for the matinee programme at the Empire this afternoon. The chief picture is a big comedy scream • "Queen for an I Hour," which will prove a big laugh pro- ! ducer. Amongst the supports; there' are. "Co-operative' Weekly."' 'lndian and African .Elephants," a comedy called "Speed," which is jusl as quick as the title, and a number of other interesting and amusing pictures, including Fatty Arbuckle in "Fatty's Seaside Lovers." TO-NIGHT EDITH STOREY IN "THE EYES OF MYSTERY." To-night Edith Storey will finally appear in the fine Metro drama, "The Eyes of Mystery," a well constructed story in which there is plenty of romance and adventure. It is the type of picture that will please all section# of thp moving picture family.

Sally MagjJl lives in Pigtail Alley and works in a factory, but she lis very beautiful, and has dreams of something higher and better. Through meeting with a woman of philanthropic ways,, she gets a chance to be constantly near people who live in ease and luxury, and partly as the result of mischief, Sally makes use of an opportunity to make an impression on the affections of a rich young man. The love affair ripens rapidly, but is rudely cut short through the jealously of another girl, who is in love with the hero. The meeting of Sally and her lover long afterwards, anil the happy ending of their fight for happiness makes a fascinating romance. Cnrlyle Blackwell makes a handsome and effective hero. The other pictures on the programme are varied and original, and help to make a first-rate entertainment..

THE FISK JUBILEE SING-ESS. For many years the Fisk Jubilee Singers have been a household word throughout Australasia. They were first organised from the Fisk University, Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A., by Mr. F. J. l.oudin, who brought the company to Austr-.lia in 1-S7l. They again visited Australia in 1-SBS, this time under the management of Mr. Jean M'Adoo. The company have now been reorganised by Professsor C. A- White, who for many years toured with Mr. M'Adoo as musical director, and will visit here on Wednesday and Thursday, August 7 and 8, at the Empire Theatre, when they should receive a great reception. Since the reorganisation of the company, they have met with great success throughout Australia and New Zealand, and their forthcoming visit, to New Plymouth > lotild prove, a powerful attraction. Miss Belle Gibbons, the lady (baritone ginger and leader of the jubileo choruses, is still a. Bower of a (traction. Tn all the years the Fisks have been appearing before the public, it is doubtful if they were ever stronger than at present. The company are ten in number, and everyone is a first-rate artist.
