FROZEN MEAT STORAGE.
A CANTERBURY PROPOSAL. Thnaru, July 27. A largely attended meeting of woolgrowers and fat lamb raisers to-day discussed the question of additional storage of frozen meat, especially lambs, in view of the acute shipping shortage. ■ Mr E. C. Studliolino opened the discussion by a proposal that the fanners interested should ask the Pareora works to provide additional storage, the fanners to find the money. If 80,000 lambs were provided for the cost would be only 2s per head, and this he recommended as a moderate insurance against the cost of feeding through next winter (6s per head.) After much discussion, it was decided to ask tlie two companies to provide storage, and charge a is per head extra, which would cover the cost, and thia arrangement would place all farmers on the same footing, whereas if farmers found the means directly, only those who contributed would have the right to space- A committee wag set up to go into the matter further.
The same meeting discussed the proposal of Mr E. Newman, M.P., regarding the disposal of profits from the comman-d(-i>ral wool surplus in England. The meeting decided to express no opinion, as it is unknown how the wool is dealt with, or whether there will be any. profits.
