TO REPLACE THE WIMMERA.
STATEMENT BY MINISTER OP MUNITIONS.
In connection with the representations made by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, urging that a steamer be placed on the Auckland-Australia service in place of the Wimmera. Mr. Arthur Myers (Minister in Charge of Munitions and Supplies) informed a Times representative yesterday that lie had advised the Auckland Chamber of Commerce by telegram that advice had been received that the Shipping Controller had refused to permit the Huddart Parker Company to replace the Wimmera by a cargo boat, as desired. Consequently the New Zealand Covernment had taken the matter up with the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth; and meantime, uftpr consolation with Mr. Bond (general traffic manager of the Union Steamship Company), who is at present in Wellington, arrangements have been made for the Union Company to run the Tarawera several trips between Sydney and Auckland. In addition, special arrangements have been made for the Atua to call at Auckland in August and September, on the route from Fiji to Sydney, thus relieving the immediate position, after which the ma Iter will be further reviewed.
