L, R. Julian (Okato) is reported dangerously ill in the latest hospital report published. Mr. T. F. Kemble, a pioneer settler of To Rangitumau, Masterton, and well known throughout the Wairarapa, died this week.
Mr. W, Fallows, of Dargaville, and formerly of New Plymouth, will fill the position of accountant at the Bank of New Zealand, Eltham. Mr. J. Blyde, of Belt Eoad, received a cablegram from England to say that his son John has been slightly wounded in the thigh and is in hospital in France, and his son Harry is on leave in England.
In a list of King's Birthday honors there appears the name of L. L. IP. Brabant, postal service, Egypt, who 'has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Mr. Brabant was a member of the post office staff at New Plymouth. Mrs. S. Oliver, Sentry Hill, has received word that her son, Rifleman J. P. Oliver, was admitted to hospital in France on July 15 suffering from a gunshot wound in the left hip. This is the second time he has been wounded.
A Christehurck wire reports the death of Mr. Henry. Suter, at the age of 77. He was a native of Switzerland, and at one time was curator of the Auckland Museum. He was one of the best known New Zealand Conchologists, being a frequent contributor to scientific journals.
A London cable states that an investiture was held at Buckingham Palace, when the King decorated Major Massey with the D.S.O. and Military Cross, in the presence of his father, the Prime Minister of New Zealand. One of the first acts of Mr. Massey on reaching England was to proceed to Brockenhurst to visit his son, Major F. G. Massey, N.Z.K.B.J who was seriously wounded in the German offensive. Major Massey was attached to a battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers, and was commanding at the time when he was. hit by a ma-chine-gun bullet. The bullet traversed both lungs, and although Major Massey is making very good progress towards recovery, it is feared that he will not be permitted to return to France.
