MILITARY APPEAL BOARD.

APPEALS AT HAWERA, (From Our 'Own Correspondent.) The First Wellington Military Service Board continued its sittings yesterday. Joseph Fotroz, fanner, Midhirst, was classed 02. Charles Daniel Murphy, fanner, Opu;nake, applied for extension Of time, and (was granted leave until the November [draft. ! William Cecil .Stanley, farmer, Ingle[wood, appealed On the grounds of public 'interest and undue hardship.—Appeal dismissed. . Edmund Vickers, farmer, Midhirst (Mr Stanford); undue hardship. Appellant's J father gave evidence on behalf of appellant. Three out of five sons had volunteered for the front. Last season he milked 75 cows with machines. He did not employ any labor apart from his own family. Two of his sons were still in the "thick of it" at the front. —Decision reserved sine die.

James Were, farmer, Normauby, appealed on the grounds of undue hardship and public interest.—Classed C2. Leonard Wiekham, butcher, Kaponga; William Henry Hayes, farmer, Waverlcy; Edward John Malcolm Miller, contractor, Waverley; Walter Wall Rust, dairy farmer, Kaimata; David Wright Paulger, laborer, Inglewood; Erie Herbert Penwarden, cheese factory manager, Tariki; Douglas E. Revell, farmer,_ Hawcra; and Heseltine Reginald Scott, sheep farmer, Omoana; were all classed C2.

Janus Percival Wybourne, farmer, Whenuakura, Patea, appealed on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship. Appellant stated that he was working a 730-acre sheep farm, carrying 1800 sheep; 500 were breeding ewes. He also had 230 head fo mixed cattle. His father was not able to give much assistance, owing to his age. All he desired was leave until after the harvesting. He had not endeavored to get a manager.— Adjourned until September, appellant in the meantime to endeavor to get a. manager for the farm. Alban Gordon Dicker, station manager, Upper Waitotara, appealed for George Brock, waggoner. He stated that it was very difficult to get a reliable man to take appellant's place, as it required an experienced man.—Decision reserved.

William Henry Southcombe, storcman, Patea, appealed on behalf of his son, Herbert Edgar Southcombe. Appellant stated that three sons had gone to the front, one of whom had been killed. Edgar managed his farm at Patea. The other two sons who went to the front were wounded.—Leave granted until the October draft.

Griffiths A. W. Williams, farmer, Mere Merc; undue hardship and public interest (Mr. O'Dea). Appellant had four families share-milking for him. His wages for the year would bo about £ISOO. His father was 60 years of age, and was in poor health. He put in 150 acres of root crops, 100 acres hay, and 40 acres of green crop. In rent and interest he paid about £IOOO per annum. He had two«brothers at the front. His father owned the four farms and he (appellant) leased them from him.

Mr. M'.Mahon, chairman of the Lowgarth Dairy Company, appealed on behalf of William Clements Williams, second assistant in the factory. The reservist, he said, would he a difficult man to replace, and it would take some time to train a man.—Derision reserved.

John Robert Witt, baker, Stratford. —Xo appearance. Appeal dismissed. James Albert Officer, farmer, Tarata, appealed on grounds of undue hardship (Mr. O'Dea). Andrew Officer, father of appellant, deposed that there was only himself and a boy or 14 on the farm, and lie had to keep, the boy away from school to do farm work. Ii was impossible for him to work the farm atone. His son was in camp, and* all that he desired was for him to obtain leave for a few months, s ay, until November.—Tho appeal was dismissed, but the board will make application for leave for appellant. John Pratt, farmer, Inglewood, was granted leave until the October draft. John Thomas Reardon, dairy farmer, Malice; undue hardship. Appellant deposed tbftt he had a' farm of 100 acres leasehold, and milked 30 cows. He was married, and had one child. His brother, aged lfi years, assisted with the milking. He also held three brothers in Egypt and another .brother who had been turned down. Ho was desirous of leaping the farm going until one of his brothers returns. —Adjourned until next sitting, in order that appellant's brother Angus may be brought before the board. Alfred William Smith, master tailor, Hawera; undue hardship. Appellant deposed that lie was carrying on business ie partnership with Mr. Lawn-, who had been called up. He employed three mala hands, two of whom—Mr- Lawn (his partner) and the cutter—iiad been called up. His partner was managing a branch shop in .ireymouth. Both the men mentioned had appealed, but at preseent he did not know the result of the 'appeal. lie would like time to torn-f-lete the orders in hand, also to see the result of the appeals at Greymouth.— Adjourned until next sitting, to see result of the other appeals at (Ireymouth. Mrs. Kemlriek, Tariki (Mr. Thompson) applied for leave for her son, Private A. iS. H. Kcndrick, who is at. present in camp. 'She stated that she had five sons, two of whom were at the front. —Board to make recommendation to the Gamp Commandant for leave. Robert M'Mullian, farmer, Stratford (Mr. Stanford), appealed on t.T;c grounds of hardship. Appellant desired leave until November, which would enable him to dispose of bis stock in the meantime. —■Leave granted until Xoveniber draft. The adjourned appeal of James Riddell Robertson, farmer, Kawera, was further reviewed, aad the former sine die decision adheriiit f!
