IN MEMORIAM.

HOLMES.—In sad and loving memory of our dear son and brother, Private Harry Victor, 19th Reinforcements, killed in action "somewhere in France/' July 31, 1917. The sad news had reached us, Young "Vic" had been killed He died like a hero On a foreign battlefield. In a land far away, Across the deep blue sea, He sleeps in a grave That we may never see. "Killed In action," said the cables; That is all the tale they tell Of the brave young lad who loved The lad we loved so well. How the life was sped we know not; What the last word, look or thought; Only that he did his duty— Died as bravely as he fought. God knows how much we miss him, And no counts tho tears we shed. And whispers: "Hush, he only sleeps; Your loved one is not dead." His King and country called him; The call was not In vain. On New Zealand's roll of honor You will find our hero's name. —lnserted by his sorrowing mother, sisters and brothers. !

RAK.—In loving memory of A. W. Rae, who died of wounds in Prance, August 1, 1917. For his country's sake. One year has passed since that sad day When one we loved was called away. We little thought when we parted last He would return no more. But now ho lies in his soldier's grave And we are left to mourn. —lnserted by his loving father, mother, brothers and sisters.

EAE— In loving memory of Private A. W. Eae, 16th Beinforcements, who died of wounds received in action In irance, August 1, 1917.

f cannot say, and I will not say, That he Is dead. Ho is just away. With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand He has wandered into an unknown land. And left us dreaming—now very fair— If needs must be he lingered there. And you—Oh 1 you who the wildest yearn For the old-time step and the glad returnThink of him faringon, as dear In the love of there as the love of here; And loyal still as he gave the blows Of his warrior's strength to his country's foes. Mild and gentle as ho was brave When the sweetest love of his life he gave To simple things Think of him still as the same, I say; He is not dead—he is just away. —lnserted by £. and E. Pierce, Stratford.
