NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.
WORKS COMMITTEE. Tiie works committee of Ihe New Plymouth Borough Council met list night, there being present: Hip Worship the Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess), Crs. J. Clarke, J. W. Hayden, F. J,'Hill, \V. l'\ Short, 15. Griffiths, W. A. 'Collis, H. J. Deare and 6. W. Browne.
The Taranaki Education Beard applied for a refund of the amouiit paid for building permit in connection with tho additions to the Now Plymouth Technical College.—The application was declined.
The Carriers' Association applied for permission to stand in Gill Street, along the south side, eastwards from Currie Street, when the wind made their present stand too cold to 'occupy.—The application was granted, subject to the approval of the inspector. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote intimating that the Fire Brigades' Conference had passed, a resolution declaring oxygen and ammonia cylinders dangerous goods, and asking that their position in premises be notified to brigades. The Department asked to be advised as to what action the council would take, in the matter. It was decided, on the motion of Crs. Hayden and Collis, that \ by-law be drafted to meet the requirements for notification to the fire brigade of the position of such goods. L. C. Sladdcn wrote calling the council's attention to tho.state of the street and; footpaths jTjs: Kowhai Street—The engineer said tnVstreet was one which had an untidy appearance. His estimate for putting this road into proper order was £262 7s Bd. The mattpr was referred to the streets sub-committee. The question of providing Mr. W. W. Thomson an entrance to his property on Rainsfortl Street was again discussed. The engineer made a report on alternative proposals, and it was finally decided to oilei p to make an entrance including a culvert crossing over the Mangaotuku stream; provided Mr. Thomson contributed half the cost.
Tho library committee was granted permission to extend shelving accommodation in order to provide for additional supplies of books just to hand. The question of providing an electric motor the sanitary department was discussed on a report from the inspector, and the mutter was referred to the estimates committee.
Ihe inspector recommended providing an extra yard at the Fitzroy pound, on account of the unsatisfactory nature of the present arrangements, 'it was deeided to make the addition as requested , Gr. Short asked if anything could be done to put the water tables and footpaths in Carrington Road in good and safe order. The Mayor stated that the mattci would be looked into by the engineer.
