Uopiins, bookseller, mil receive iiroiiii'l itteution.J COPPER THAIU The preliminaries in connection with Stratford's efforts in furthering the Copper Trail on behalf of the Red Croes funds was advanced another stage on | Monday evening, when the Mayor presided over a good meeting. The Mayor said it looked as if the promoters scarcely knew hi what way to carry out the scheme. Personally, he thought a straight-out subscription list would raise a", much and nos entail anything like the bother or work. dir. Sole stated that the Ladies' Patriotic Committee were behind the appeal, and thev had accomplished a lot of good work. Bv setting up a sub-committee to work with tho ladies, they could further consider the question and evolve soino scheme.
In reply to ilia Mayor. Mr. P.owe, who was appointed organiser at tho first. I meeting, stated that, he was not prepared at the moment to outline any scheme. That would come in due time. In the meanwhile they had to appoint sub-com-mittees and then get going. He had a fow things in view. Other towns iiad done excellent work on balialf of the Red Cross, and ho had no doubt Stratford and district would also show up well. Mr. Boon stated that lite Stratford Dairy Company had given him a sympathetic hearing, and, flftor a little discussion, had unanimously resolved to accept the challenge, and h® nr.<l no doubt that I with the country well organised the reI suits would prove very satisfactory. In the meantime a sub-eommittee could get [to work and present something tangible hefotr- the public. I A committee, consisting ol Messrs I Boon. Robinson, Richards, J. S. McDonald. and the organiser (\!t Rowe) and secretary (Mr. Cooper) wove appointed to arrange further details.

A HOUSE DESTROYED. The fire brigade received a eall early on Mondfly morning, but the outbreak was beyond the water supply and the brigade was able to give little assistance, as the lateness of the alarm, distance to traverse, and lack of water made brigade work out oi the question. Hastk Road was the scene of tV.e blaze, and tlie premises destroyed, a seven-roomed house, was owned by Air. J. Richards, Cardiff, and occupied by G. W Broadley. The fire was discovered at about 1.45 a.m. Mrs. Broadley and her three children having few spare moments to size up tie situation and beat a retreat before the premises were gutted. The State Office held both insurances— £2.V) on the house and £2OO on tlie furniture.
