HIGH COMMISSIONER.'S MARKET REPORT. The following is an amendment of the information contained in a cablegram received from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, July 20:- ' ' Meat.—Wholesale prices for imported beef, have been revised according to country of origin. Following prices will bo'in force after tins week for hinds and fores respectively:—Canadian, 12Jd, o%d; African and Brazilian, 13% d, lQ.'/sd; American, 13% d, 10% d other countries, 13% d, 10% d. Cheese.—English cheddar, wholesale prices have been fixed at the following rates: Manufactured during July, 177/4 d; manufactured after the beginning of August, 186/Sd.
ADDINGTON MARKET. Ohristchurch, July 24. At Addingtdn the feature of the market after the short supplies' of last week was the large yarding of fat sheep, there being rather more than enough to fill ten races. South Canterbury contribui xl well to the supply, but many sheep from near at hand had evidently suffered through the bad weather and snow, ewes showing the effects more than wethers. There was a good supply of fat cattle, but in other departments the yardings were, very small. Fat cattle sold well, and fat sheep also met with a good sale, though prices declined from tho rates of the week before, but were better than those of a fortnight ago. Fat pigs sold at advanced rates, and there. were but few stores offered. There was a small yarding of store sheep, and wethers sold well.
Store Sliecp.—Ewe hoggets, 25s 4d; four and six-tooth wethers, 32s (Jd to 3.35; two and four-tooth wethers, 28s Id; six and eight-tooth merino wethers, 18r 3d.
Fat Sheep.'—Extra prime wetliers, to 62s Cd; prime wethers, 38s 6d to 425; lighter wethers, 33s 6d 'to 38s; prime ewes, 32s 6d to 375; medium ewes, 27s fid to 325; lighter ewes, 23s to 275; hoggets, 20s 3d to 40s 9d. Fat Cattle.-rr Extra prime steers, to £2B; prime steers £lB to £22 10s; ordinary steers, £l3 10s to £l7 10s: prime Jieifers, £ls; ordinary heifers £8 5s to £l4 10s; prituc cows, to £l7 2s 6d; ordinary cows, £8 17a Bd to £l4 10s Od.
Store Cattle.-—Low-condition yearlings, £3 15gf. three year, steer?, £.ll ss; four and five-year Chatham Island steers, £l2 ss; dry cows, £6 to £8 10s; dairy cows, £lO to £lO. Pigs.—Choppers, £5 to £[); extra heavy baconers, £7 lOg; heavy baconers £6 to £0 10s; lighter baconers £s'to £5 10s (equal to 9d to OJd per lb.;; heavy porkers 75s to 80s; lighter baconers 60s to 70s (equal to Ud per lb). Burnside morel lsteert a</», ■ BURNSIDDE STOCK SALE. Dunedin, uly 24. At Burnside yards 262 fat cattle were penned, and were mostly of good quality. Prices declined 15s to 20s per head compared with last week, but competition was good. Best bullocks, £2l to £23; extra, £24; good £l7 10a to £lO 10s; medium light £l4 10s to £IG; best cows and heifera, £l3 to £l4 10s; extra £l6 10s; medium, £ll to £l2 10s; light £9 10s to £lO 10s. The number of sheep penned was 1772. The entry was only sufficient for butchers' requirements. Best quality advanced 2s (Id, and medium Is 6d! per head. Best-wethers, 48s to 525; extra 595; good 42s to 465; medium 35s to 3Ss;.best ewes 40s to 455; extra 50s !)d; medium good 33s to "6s; light 24s to 28s. There were 375 lambs penned. The • quality was fairly good. Prices were equal to late rates. Best 28s to 30s; medium to good 25s to 26s 6d; light, unfinished 21s to 22s 6d. Of pigs there was a very smalt entry of fats and stores. There was a keen demand and prices for fats showed an adVance, while stores realised late rates.
