THE EMPIRE. SPECIAL MATINEE PROGRAMME TO-DAY. "THE SUBMARINE PIRATE." A special treat lias been arranged for the kiddies at the Empire matinee this afternoon, when the redoubtable Syd. Chaplin will star in a big five-reel comedy "The Submarine Pirate." This is one of the best comedy stunts ever produced in pictures, and will-keep both the children and the aduits in roars of laughter. There are a number of good films in support, including a "Weekly Budget,'' "Impressions of Rome" (scenic), "Thirty. Days" (comedy), and "Tree Animals" (Ditmar educational). Children will be admitted for threepence, TONIGHT LAST NIGHT OF HAROLD LOCKWOOD. IN "THE AVENGING TRAIL." To-night wiJi be (lie last screening of ih; vigorous story of tha Canadian lumber camps, "The Avenging Trail," in which Harold Lockwocd lakes the leading role. This is a story full of tense excitement, healthy out-cf-doors scenes and concerning real men. Harold Lockwood lias some mighty battle in the lumber camps as Custon Olaf and carries them through in his ««i:al vigorous style. In response-to numerous requests, "The Submarine Pirate" will also be screened to-night. - ■ ■
EVERYBODY'S. MOLLIE KING AND ARTHUR ASHLEY IN "THE SUMMER GIRL." '"The Summer Girl," a World drama with Mollie King as the wealthy heroine and Arthur Ashley as the poor artist-hero, la a delightful story redolent of the joyous warmth of summer. Mollie King takes- the part' of Mary Anderson. While liviii<r out in the country she encounters Bruce Haldeman, the obscure artist. In a frolicing mood she introduces the 'laundress an her mother and the artist, fascinated by Mary's beauty, begs to paint her portrait. It is not long before they find that they love each other, but Mary.'s real mother, hearing of the escalade, is highly indignant, especially as she intends oj> anfbilious match for her daughter. So Mary has to return to the city. She enlists her father's sympathy, however, and together they visit Bruce's studio. A misunderstanding arises through the presence of the model at (he studio. Thus . the lovers are sundered not only by the social gulf but also by a heart-breaking misapprehension. The story is beautifully presented and makes a fascinating loveidyll of summertime. "The Summer Girl" will show at Everybody's at the matinee and again to-niglit for the last time.
