KAHUI DAIRY COMPANY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The sixth annual meeting of the Kaitui Dairy Company washeld at the factory on Friday; Mr. W, Fleming (chairman of directors) presiding over a good attendance of suppliers. The report showed that milk received totalled 2,291,810, butter-fat 87,050.885, average test 3.797, cheese mad© 224,908 (less 2J per cent.) 219,340, weight of cheese made to pound of butter-fat 2.519, weight of milk used to pound of cheese 1D.145. Advances made on milk averaged Is 3d per pound of bubter-fftt. After paying working expenses and allowing a substantial amount for depreciation, the balance available was sufficient to pay 5 per cent- on paitup share capital, and to pay out a further 4%d per •ound on butter-fat. Though the amount of milk received was somewhat greater than last year, which should tend to reduce the cost per pound in manufacture, the costs had risen altogether disproportionately to the increased price received.

The foalanee-slieet showed that cheese sold and in store totalled £OOSO 10s »d, working expenses, etc., £17113 17s 9d, and depreciation £ 158 12s 3d.

The adoption of the report was moved by the chairman and seconded by Mr. T. Willcox. The latter started that th« past season had been an anxious one for the directors owing to the shortage of shipping having led to congestion of storage, with the result that at times their factory was full to the door, The choeae made was 5J tons more than in Khe previous year, and it would have been mora but for the storage difficulty. The yield was low, but, considering the circumstances, was not abnormally so. This was due to the fact that they had to store so long in the factory. Tho company had had changes of management, Mr. Slirimpton, late of Omata, having now been appointed to the posU tion. It had been decided to instal a whey butter plant at a cost, including alterations to the factory, of £4OO, and it was expected that whey and starter butter, valued at £3OO to £350, would be manufactured, besides obviating the l;uying of butter, which was very unsatisfactory. Butter could be made at the beginning of tho season if flavors' were unsatisfactory, also at the end of the season when the milk wais very rich in butter-fat. Though he did not favor grading milk, any milk that proved unsatisfactory could foe put through the separator instead of being sent home. He referred to the steps taken to increase cold storage accommodation, stating that it would be necessary for their eompanyto take up £2OO worth of additional shares in the freezing company. A. satisfactory cartage contract had been let for the next two years.
