-UMBiS OF THE LAW." SUCCESSFUL CONCERT. The "Limis of the Law" concert given »t ibe Good Templar Hall last night fry the members of the legal profession and a'few friends, in aid of the Lawyers' Day for Red Cross funds, drew such a large CTowd that a number of people were unable to obtain even staging room at the time the concert commenced. The committee that organised and carried through the effort lias every reason to be thoroughly satisfied with the resultThe ''iirnbs" behaved with correct ds portment iu the first half of the pr«» gramme, which with a pianoforte soio by Mr. Arnold 0. Sturrock. Then followed songs by Mrs. Sommcrville, Misses V. Gilbert and E. Fox, Messrs S\ Day and P. A. Carter, all of whom recalled.

In the second part, however, ortlio | doxy was flung to the winds, and the 'limbs'' waved and voices whooped and | vaudeville held sway supreme. The I part opened with a chorus by "the troupe," which was really a "pot pauri" [ of nursery rhymes, and the costumes of the singers were as varied as the ditties they sang- Miss Vera Gilbert, who possesses a gift for that class of entertain 1 mont, appeared next in a ragtime song I entitled "All Aboard for Dixie Land," I and was recalled- Later she sang "There's a Little Baby Up in the Moon," in which she was assisted by the "troupe." Two vepy clever dances were given by the Misses M. Avery, K. M'Cleland, V. Gilbert, and 0. Palmer. The first was a "Tally-ho"' dance, in which the young ladies appeared in hunting costumes. The second was a Dutch dance, also in appropriate costume. Both the items had to be repeated. Miss Dora Bedford gave a very jrood presentation of the musical monologue entitled "Dismal Jimmie," and for an encore gave a somewhat ler.gthy recitation. The concluding item was the solo and chorus "Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit Bag," in which Miss 0. Palmer was the soloist and in which the audience joined in the chorus. Here, again, the grotesque costumes of the troupe added greatly to the general effect produced. The stage was nicely decorated, a conspicuous figure in ihe setting being ft miniature effigy of the Chief Justice, who, in the first half of the concert was very properly given the place of honor. Later, however, apparently to make room for the more, jovial "limbs" of the law, he was igirominiously hung on the proverbial "sour apple tree." During a short intervaJ, a beautiful basket bouquet, presented by Mrs. R. C Hughes, was auctioned by Mr- L. B. Webster, and realised the sum of £l2 Is Ed, being finally knoekoil down to Mrs. K. A. Walker for 37s Cd- Bouquets were presented to all the lady solo perform ere. It is estimated thai the concert will produce something in the vicinity of £6O. The sale of tickets was said to be worth about £43, and the sale of sweets realised £>4 4s. The committee wish to thank all those who assisted to make the venture a success, especially Mrs. D. Blacklev, Mrs. E. C. Hughes, Miss Blythe (who played all the accompaniments for the latter part of the programme), Collier's foT the use of the piano and a room for practising, and Messrs MT-eod and Slade for the gift of programme.?.
