VETERAN'S SAD FATE.
KILLED BY A MOTOR CAR,,; (Special to News.)' Hawera, Last Night, . A sad fatality occurred this evening, on the Main South Road, Hawera, about three-quarters of a mile out of the town, resulting in the death of an old and respected resident—Mr. Thomas Morgan. It appears that Mr. Morgan, who is about 73 years of age, was returning about 6 p.m. from milking his cows, and was wheeling the milk in a hand cart. He was accompanied by a young grandson, who was walking ahead. The lad heard a crash, and, looking behind, sftw a car that was approaching from the direction of Manaia, ?.ig-zagging across the road. The car had run right oVer Mr. Morgan, who sustained temble injuries, including two broken legs and gashed head. He died a few minutes afterwards. The motor car, which, it is said, had no tail light, never stopped. Deceased, jvb* leaves a widow and grown-up family, was a well-known veteran, and wfts present at the Turuturumokai celebrations in HaWera recently.
