MAGISTRATE HASELDEN FAREWELLED. ■Prior to the ordinary business at the Eltham Court yesterday morning, Mr. T. B. Crump addressed the presiding Magistrate, Mr. \V. R. Haselden,' as follows: "Voiir Worship, we nnderstanc that your retirement from the Magis-H terial Bench takes place very shortly! and that this is the last occasion or,. which you will preside in this court. Wcj can well believe that it is with mixed! feelings that you and your colleagues who are in similar case receive the edict of retirement. We can understand that men conscious of active and vigorous and, as they believe, probably unimpaired menial and physical equipment might not welcome the suggestion involved in their retirement that advancing years mean waning powers and slackening eh'orts. On the other hand, long years of continuous work, often unrelieved by adequate intervals for rest and recuperation, entitle a public servant to a period of comfort and freedom from the cares of office. I feel quite sure that I ain voicing the sincere and honest sentiment of the members of ,the Bar in this town and district in expressing to your Worship the hope that you may live long and be blessed with good health, so that you may enjoy to the full the rest and case to which your long period of service so well entitles you."

Mr. Haselden, in the course of a brief reply, said he thanked the members of the Bar most sincerely for their kind expressions, and wished them all the success which they deserved, nceompanied by peace and prosperity. He hoped also that they would secure as good a Magistrate as they deserved.
