NEW MOTOR TIP-LORRY. The A task ot converting an ordinary live-ton motor-lorry into a tip-waggon is not altogether an easy one, but this lias been completely accomplished by Mr. 15. S. Woolridge, engineer and mechanic, of Gill Street, New Plymouth, to the order of the Stratford County Council. Not only has the transformation been effected, but it lias been done in such, a way as to provide many advantages over those of the ordinary tip-truck. The strong features of the converted waggon are that the whole of the operations of tipping the load and replacing the waggon on the chassis are controlled by the motor driver from the cab of the machine, without moving from his seat. The extra gear and mechanism necessitated for the raising and lowering of the waggon have been so arranged that the waggon may be raised to any angle within the full range of tlie tip provided, and will remain at that angle until either raised or lowered by the operatordriver. Moreover, the truck can he driven either forward ov backward, with the waggon raised at any angle, and the whole operation may be carried out while the truck is in motion or while stationary. The tipping-gears are controlled by front levers, the motive power for raising the waggon, of course, being the motof which drives the truck. The operations work most smoothly, and those who have seen the waggon pronounce it to possess many advantages over the ordinary tip-waggon. The whole of the work in connection with the transformation, including the making and fixing of the necessary parts, has been carried out in Mr. Woolridge's workshop, which is fitted with all' the latest and most up-to-date machinery and is replete with every-device of a modern mechanical and electrical engineering shop, which places tlie proprietor in a position to undertake any class of such work that may require to be done.
