By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. An intense storm area has ruled and been centred In the vicinity of the Chatham Islands I during the past few days. High south-west winds and very cold, stormy conditions prevailed, with sleet, snow and showers. A heavy snowfall has been reported in the South Island, adn In the centra Iportion of the North Island. Present indications are for southerly winds, strong to gale, generally, and unsettled, cold and showery weather, with further snow in the South Island and on the higher levels in the North Island. The barometer is on the rise.
