Still, the Council should pass soma resolution in regard to the matter. It might be as well to hold it over until next regular meeting of the Council, by j winch time Councillors would have an opportunity of fully considering it. Cr Beid .said that in liis opinion the resolutions passed by the Gisborne Canned was not a bit too strong. Cr Osborne paid that if the matter was held over the Council might possibly frame a better resolution than that one before them. , Cr Hayton was of opinion that in regard to the single aliens there was room for something being done. The resolu- ( tion before the Council was, to his mind, rather extreme. | On the motion of Cr Goodwin, seconded 1 by Cr Bone, it was decided to defer the ! matter until next meeting. j COMBINER .ENGINEERING ) SERVICES. A lengthy draft of suggestions of j terms and conditions for a proposal that ! an engineer be employed to act in conjunction with Haw-era, Stratford Eltham and lnglewood Boroughs, was placed before the Council, the choice of the gentleman to 1111 the position being .Mr ' Sturrock, engineer to the Haweru Borough Council. j ■ A motion by Cr- Bone that the matter ! be considered in committee did not Jind ' a seconder. > Cr Reid .said that he considered that a j committee should bo set up to meet ■ committees from the other BoroiHi.! Councils with a view of fnilv discussing tiie various clauses in the draft mont, and afterwards report to ° the Council. No moved that the Mayor, Crs Osborne, Bone and Morrisgey be "appointed a committee. Seconded by Cr Osborne and carried. The Mayor said that it was the intention of tlie different Borouahs concerned to bring the proposed draft agreement before their respective Councils. Cr Reid's proposal would probably be helpful to the Councils in coming to a decision. There were bound to be certain points raised by other Councils. (r Reid: That, is more than likely as t.iey do not know the engineer as we do. Tin* motion was carried. Use Council decided to go into commitiv to i-oiisider the various clauses in the proposed agreement. I pon the Council resuming the Mayor ippnrted that the Council were in sympathy with the proposed scheme with one or two minor alterations- The commit! ee would now meet the committees -rem the other Borough Councils interesteu. I The Mayor said now that it was known that Mr Carnogie was not goinr to give financial assistance to the librarv T-'hrary Committee of the CouncU and the Ilawera Library Committed snonl.l meet and endeavour to have soma improvements made to the public reading room. The Mayor said that it would be a good idea if the Council passed a similar resolution to the one carried at the veteran's luncheon last Vridav, in coftaoc tion with the acquisition of a reserve at 1 nruturu Mokai. Cr Hayton moved that the Commissioner oi Crown Lands be approached' and urged to transfer tlje 14 acres in questnin to the Hawcra Borough Council or a local body that would adequtelv ocvelop it as a public reserve, i Seconded by Cr Osborne and carried.
