His Worship reported having attended : a meeting of Mayors of the Hawera, Stratford, Eltham, and Inglewood boroughs to discuss the question of retain-' I ing tlie services of Mr. Sturroek hot thorn as consulting engineer. Aftejt con siderable discussion, in which"" each councillor expressed his opinion, it was agreed that, as the council has no works of importance likely to be undertaken which would require the service? of an engineocr for some time to come, it would notx be advisable to saddle the borough wiih the liability of guaranteeing a portion of the retaining fee- Inglewood's share was put down at, approximately, £SO per year for five years. A. letter was also received from Mr. Ben Tippins, expressing his willingness to undertake the duties of poundkeeper and inspector under the by-laws,provid-ing satisfactory arrangement's can be made. A sub-eommittee was appointed to go into the matter with Mr. Tippins. It was also decided to forward a remit to the Municipal Conference with re- , spec!, to the speed limits of motor traffic. I Cr. Sutherland proposed and Cr. Buckley ! seconded—''That the council recommend , that speed limits as follow be recommended:—Main streets, 13 miles; intersect ion of roads, 10 miles; and round , corner-. S miles."—Carried. Messrs Rowe and Peterson left by mail train on Wednesday for camp. A well-known and popular local cleric , has written a play, which is to be staged at an early date. The actors have been selected, and are already preparing, and <--omcthire.: above ihe average is expected. Mr. Branch, who has been in camp for fome time/has been discharged, and returned to Inglewood by Wednesday's express.
