INDUSTRIAL CONSCRIPTION.
SIR JAMES ALLEX EXPLAINS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Sir James Allen and members of the Government met the representatives of the recent Labor Conference held to discuss the so-called industrial conscription proposals in clause 25 of the Finance Act of last year. Sir James Allen assured the deputation that, before any regulations were made, Labor would be consulted, and that the intention was not to use the clause, as the Labor peopla seemed to suspect was the intention, to suppress labor or make it possible for employers to exploitMention was made of the Jugo-Slavs, and Sir James Allen said the fiovernment had made use of this claus? as affecting the Jugo-Slavs, because there were no other reflations suitable for the purpose. The steps that iiad been taken a;;ainst the Jugo-Slavs were to protect the workers and conserve for our own people the gumfields, which were being exploited by them.
