The death is reported at Dunedin of Mr. John Runciman Deceased, for a time, resided in Dannevirke with his son, Mr. A. J. 0. Runciman, formerly a member of the Dannevirke Borough Council. The late Mr. Runciman was • eighty-two years of ago, and was a very old New Zealand settler, arriving in the Dominion by the Philip Laing in 1859. He is survived by his widow and a family of five sons and one daughter. A London correspondent states that j Captain Leo Myers, late of Auckland, J and brother of the Hon. Arthur Myers,! | has been appointed honorary organiser l >| of the Riflemen's Aid Society Cap-I.^ tain Myers enlisted as a private in tho a", King's Own Royal Rifles shortly atter .'. the outbreak of war, spent 3J years,;"' under canvas (including several rronths t in the trenches in France), eventually " rising to the rank of captain in Ws . regiment. Since being invalided Home ' from France, Captain Myers, who is j in his 40th year, has been training troops in one of the camps in England, Although he has been examined sis times by the Medical Boards, the de« cision in each instance has been: "Fit for sedentary duty only." The Riflemen's Aid Society exists for the purpose of assisting discharged or demobilised soldiers belonging to tho two famous regiments, the King's Royal Rrfliw and the Rifle Brigade. By its means employment is found not only for tbeso • historic regiments, but the widows and children of those who have lost thsfr lives in the service are also Assisted, and, when necessary, educated «nfl trained for congenial and suitable asas*» Itions.
