Stratford, July 17 The executive committee mcL last evening, Mr. Lopdell presiding. Others present were: K. 11. Linnell, T. Aylward, W. Pettigrew, A. lluggett, 11. Harrison, and 1). M'Millan. A letter was received from tiic Jersey . Breeders' Association offering a gold • medal for a class in Jersey heller.-, I calved sir.ee July 1. IBIG, and in milk, to be judged on type. The council also offered a subsidy of £ for .C up to £5 and £lO, which may be allotted at the show for cows holding semi-official record?.—After a little discussion, both oilers were accepted with thanks. The following committees were elected: —farm, Messrs Dingle, Huggott, Fenwick, and David: finance, Messrs Boon, Dingle, and R. Masters: schedule, Messrs If. Hewison. C. Jackson, and W. T. Bailey; catering, Mesdamos Boon.C'rawshaw, Good, Curtis, Masters, and Ashton; print in",' Messrs Aylward, Ltpdell, and Richards; one-day butter-fat competition, Messrs Boon, Jackson, and A/'ward. Tuesday evening was found ineonvenilent, and in future the executive will meet on Thursdays when necessary. Mr. Harold Masters was elected a member SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Those present at the monthly meeting of the School Committee last evening were Mr. Boon (chair), Mrs. T. White, and Messr s F. J. M'Douall, Lawn, Forster, Pinhey, Clarke, and Tiehbon The secretary was instructed to call tenders for wood, coal, and coke. Mr. Tyrer, headmaster, reported that Miss Lovell Smith was leaving this week, and that Miss Campbell had poined the teaching stall'. The recent epidemic had interfered considerably with school wcrk, but he hoped to have a full year's work complete before the annual examinations. Inspectors Morton and Ballantyne had been taking the training work of teachers and probationers of the district. Stratford being very central for this work. Regarding moral instruction to scholars, Mr. Foster stated that the Revs. Howard, Madill. and Tinsley were prepared to visit the school for that purpose.—After some discussion, it was decided to ask the ministers io formulate a system of working. The Salvation Army wcro already visiting the school. In view of the shortage of funds, .Messrs M'Donald, Pinbey, and Clarke were appointed to carry out a concert to hi.ild up the funds, fuel at present bein? the big item of expenditure. Accounts totalling £'23 13s 3d were passed for payment. WAR RELIEF WORK. The loans granted by the association during the June quarter totalled £lOls on account of soldiers and £3OO to dependents. In addition, further loans up to £2-300 had been approved, but not granted, pending securities being completed. Relief granted to soldiers totalled £'2-23 15s, and clothing allowance absorbed £ls :")?, whilst dependents dipped into the treasury to the extent of £53 2s 2d. Loans written off aggregated £24 ss. Relief granted by local societies and refunded by the association during the same period was £254 ISs Sd. Stratford's quota to the regimental funds and for fit men was fixed at £4O for regimental and £33 17s 5d for providing , comforts for our men in the trenches and near the firing-line. GENERAL. Tlia Stratford contingent, leaving to join the 44th Reinforcements, were farewelled this morning. The men leaving were:—M. H. Bailey, J. Beedie. C M'i. Young, A. C Milne, F. Mills, F. W. Miers, E. C. Robertson, A. C. Speck, and C. C Stewart. The Ladies' Patriotic Committee presented hold-alls to the men, [whilst speeches suitable to the rwasion were delivered by Jho Mayer and Rev. R. B. Tin shy, the Municipal Band, under Conductor Spurdle, playing several selections and giving the function a more animated appearance. The Women's National Reserve had a good attendance at the monthly meeting held yesterday. Songs were contriIbutcd by Mesdames Holland and Massey and Messrs Walters and Aitken, whilst instrumental items were rendered by Mrs. J. H. Thompson, .Misses Moon and Hopkins. The secretary of the reserve desires to acknowledge donations of £'2 from Mrs. H- E. Abraham and £ 1 Is from Mrs. O'Reilly towards cost of purI chasing badges for soldiers' wives.
The Mavor officially welcomed home Privates Carter and Terry, invalided back with the last batch of returned men, at the station last evening. * The results of examinations by scholars of the Sacred Heart High School are now to hand. In elementary shorthand. Freda Belcher scored 07, Irene Leitch 04, Kathleen Wilson 9.1, Zada Angaard 02, MaVl Geraghty 01; elementary typewriting, Kathleen Wilson, Mabel Geraghty, and Zada Aasraard 94, Fred Belcher 93. Irene Leitch SOThe weather was anything but favorable yesterday for the efforts flf the ladies in the patriotic shop and tea rooms to build up the Stratford appeal for Church Armv funds. The amount collected in the tea rooms was £25 lis, and in the shop £7 ]os. These amounts include gifts of £5 by Mesdames J B. Htne and V. Nolan: £1 each by Mesdames Rutherford, Arthur Richmond, C. 'Bayly, and anonvmous: 10s each from Mrs. O'Reilly and Dr. Paget. The appeal is now in the neighborhood of £IOO, the sum aimed at. At Opunake Road to-day, at 1 p.m., Mr. T. Lomason will sell, at the residence of Mr. A J. Walters, the whole of his honwbold ftrrnitnrc and effects Mr Walters has sold his proprrtv, and is leaving the district, so that all the furniture, which is in splendid condition and as good as new, must fie noM.
